Right Wing Extremists: Are You One?!

The question, are you a right wing extremist?  The answer, well, if you fit the below definition then according to Homeland Security, then yes.

“Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and
adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups),
and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or
rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a
single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

You can find this information in full here, but let’s just look at this generalization first.  I hope if you are reading this, and paying attention, that I know a little bit about you.  I know I don’t really hate anyone, do you?  Didn’t think so, especially based on religion, race, or ethnicity.  I am not anitgovernment, government is a necessary evil to protect individual rights and freedoms, don’t you feel the same way?  Do you favor state or local authority over federal?  Ah, might have you there, I know that I support states rights as based on the founding of our country.  Do you?  Some of you might, you know what, that makes you an extremist.  Wow, we are extreme if we cater to a 200+ year old concept of government!?  Hmm, further we see that if we are a group dedicated to a single issue, such as abortion or immigration we might be extremist.  Well now, if your group is pro-choice, you may be an extremist.  If you are pro-life you may be as well.  How bout those that support open borders, those groups are dedicated to that issue, are they extremist?  NO, you are extremist if your actions lead to violence against another because of their views and/or ideas.  There are just as many left wing extremists as there are right, but this HSA report is about the right wing ones, let’s sweep those environmental groups that destroy property under the table.

The report goes on to cite all the various issues that might incite people to become extremists, economic being their main factor.  They even go as far as to say this…

“Rightwing extremist chatter on the Internet continues to focus on the
economy, the perceived loss of U.S. jobs in the manufacturing and construction sectors,
and home foreclosures.”

Perceived loss?!  Is it perceived that unemployment has skyrocketed in the last year?  Is it our imagination, or do they just want to stress the point that us ‘right wing’ extremists have no basis for our concerns?  Then it goes on to say that we are using racial views, the views of the administration, and the historical election of an African-American President to galvanize our ‘troops’.  I am pretty sure if you watch, the only people saying race has anything to do with this, other than the real nutjobs like the Klan, are the Left!  I don’t see any conservatives talking about race, but as soon as we disagree with the president the Left screams racist.  As soon as a Republican says something responsible like ‘adding millions of citizens to the country in a very short time would be disastrous to our society’, the left screams racist and says they just don’t like immigrants.

“Most statements by rightwing extremists have been rhetorical,
expressing concerns about the election of the first African American president,
but stopping short of calls for violent action. In two instances in the run-up to the
election, extremists appeared to be in the early planning stages of some
threatening activity targeting the Democratic nominee, but law enforcement

Wow, really?  I don’t recall race being a factor in most rightwing ‘rhetoric’.  You know that one of the most vocal people on TV, who is also considered a Rightwing Extremist, and an inciter of extremists is Glenn Beck.  Do you know that he was very happy to see an African American candidate?  Anyone watching his show would have heard him say many times he is proud of an America that finally got around to doing it, his problem was with the candidate himself.  But again, the Left screams racist and can’t hear the message.  I would also like to point out that extremist groups, Right and Left have targeted EVERY president at one time or another.  This is nothing new, and has nothing to do with race.

Now, let me be clear, a vast majority of this report deals with supremacist groups and militias.  If these people do something violent, or threaten to do something violent then yes, they are terrorist, and should be handled accordingly.  The problem I have is their broad definition of extremist, which can pretty much lump everyone into the group.  It is like their change from ‘Global Warming’ to ‘Climate Change’, no matter what happens, they can be right.

What does this mean for you?  If the HSA says you are an extremist, based on their broad definition, you can be put on a watch list.  Your rights to buy firearms can be restricted.  You can be monitored by the government without your knowledge.  What I want to know, is where are those politicians who cried about wiretaps on suspected terrorists when they called out of the country?  Nowhere now, why, because now you are the extremist, and they want to keep watch on you in case you educate yourself, and pass what you know on to others that feel the same way.  ‘Just in case’ you might want to do something extreme.  Oh, but what I just said could be construed as a conspiracy theory so I guess that makes me an extremist, watch out, I might type you to death!
