Michael Moore Hates America: A review

Ok, I know I am a little behind but yesterday I watched a great documentary.  I was browsing my Roku yesterday (greatest product from Netflix, if you have never heard of it look it up) and I saw the documentary Michael Moore Hates America.  Of course I have disliked Michael Moore, his message, and his tactics from day one so I was interested to see how the filmmaker Michael Wilson made the case.  The movie was made back in 2004, so I imagine most of you have already seen it.

The movie is not so much an attack on Michael Moore as an examination of a man who can’t seem to do anything but lie.  It examines everything from his hometown, which isn’t Flint Michigan, to his exploitation of a soldier who lost his arms.  Moore is really from nearby Davison, and the soldier, Peter Damon, wishes he had not been used by Moore without his permission.  The case that Moore hates America is backed up by video of Moore all but saying he hates America.  Wilson interviews targets of Moore’s movies, people he ambushed, exploited, and used to try to make his point.

Wilson also finds himself dancing with the same tactics Moore uses.  He knows it, exposes it in his own film, and in the majority of cases corrects it by exposing himself to his subjects.  His point is, it’s easy to do what Moore does, but no matter your point if you use those tactics you are a liar through and through.  Wilson’s journey in the movie follows much the same theme as Moore’s Roger and Me, with Wilson trying to get an interview with the Fat-Cat movie maker.  He never gets the interview.

The point in the end is that Moore’s skewed view of America is so out of line with what is really happening that he can’t be taken seriously, despite the fact that his methods should make him a joke as well.  Wilson points out that even in places like Flint, there is hope.  The American dream is alive and well, but you have to work for it.  No one is going to hand it to you, the government can’t give it to you, and a multi-millionaire like Michael Moore isn’t going to help you get it.  I would like to extend that message with one from me:  Michael Moore, and fans of his that want socialism, or some other form of ‘free’ society, move.  There are plenty of countries out there for you.  This is America, where people make their own way, with the freedom to rise or fall on our own merits.  We like it that way, so leave us the country you hate because we love it.

Now, I know my review was fairly short, and I can’t do much better than this one.  Hopefully you will watch the movie if you haven’t already.

  1. I happen to like Michael Moore!!! At least he is an honest person. A lot more
so then the so called Republicans in office. The White House is full of bigtory
and self greed. They are out for themselves and don’t give a dam for the middle
class of this country. As long as their pockets are full the hell with the rest
of us Americans who are starving and mothers who can’t support their children.
Michael Moore tells the truth about the Insurance Co.s . George Bush has sold
America down the river right along with Chenney and his cronies. So i say to
you.”You are the one who hates America”……….

    • If you say so Natakie. I guess you didn’t bother to read the post or even look up the film that it reviews did you? Michael Moore actually lies quite often, and the film I reviewed for you will show you where. I don’t disagree with you that republicans are bad for our country, but so are democrats. I don’t disagree with you that Bush did some ignorant stuff, but so is Obama. If you bothered to read any of my posts you might find out I don’t like either side, but that is expecting too much from someone who throws around baseless talking points without bothering to read. Have a nice day.

  2. michael moore lies so what, atleast that created more awareness among the people than little truth we knew back then . And i would like to believe ppl started to question both sides. Truth unlike fact is never absolute, truth depends on the majority. If a majority says ‘hey, you know what, there is all-knowing and all-powerful being living up in the sky!’ ; hence it must be true.
